White Oak (also called Valley Oak) is a hardwood that is not only very durable but also fairly easy to work. It has long been a favorite for furniture making, and its resistance to moisture has made it a common material in boat making. The heartwood is light to medium brown with white to light brown sapwood; it also displays ray flecks when quartersawn. Because of its resilience and beauty, white oak is also a favorite for cabinetry, trim and flooring, taking well to glues and stains.
